The Home Parade

Posted

This year’s social distancing made for a quiet holiday across the country, but the Manchester Fourth of July Committee brought their creative a-game by organizing a flipped parade, where residents could enter their homes as “floats” for a parade of viewers who toured around from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday to check out the decked out homes around town.  It was a bit like doing a “Map Of The Stars Homes” tour of Hollywood, only the star of this show was the 375th Anniversary of the town’s founding.  Hooray.

The committee bought gift cards and/or gift cards from many of the businesses who supported the parade years past.  This year there were no donations solicited.  Just goodwill, with this year’s prizes were offered by local businesses.

The O'Malley Family at 14 Norwood won for the 375th Theme and will receive a $100 Gift Card to Allie's Beach St Café.  The Powers Family from 66 Pleasant St won for 4th of July Theme and will receive a $25 Gift Certificate to The Black Arrow and a gift certificate to Standley's Garage for a Lube, Oil Filter Service and Tire Rotation ($90 value).  The Bachman Family at 90 Summer St won for Time and Effort and will receive a $50 gift card to Crosby's and a $50 gift card to Cuddlefish.

There was a tie this year for “Originality,” with the Morse Family at 33 Union winning a $25 Ace Hardware gift certificate and a $25 Allen's Pharmacy gift certificate, and the Cochand Family at 15 Vine St winning a $50 gift certificate to 4 Beach.

Honorable Mention For “Then And Now”

C.P. “Kitty Weaver had fun with friends this year by “dressing” her family home (the “Tappan House”) on Bridge Street to suit a bit of history.

Posed in front of a dressed-to-the-bunting-nines home in honor of Manchester’s 250th Anniversary.  Today, 125 years later, Weaver and friends dressed up in both period costume and with appropriate Summer 2020 COVID masks and posed to mimic her ancestors for this year’s 375th Anniversary.  Bravo!
