William H. “Bill” Hatcher

William H. “Bill” Hatcher, age 77 passed peacefully Thursday evening, September 26 surrounded by family. A lifelong resident of Manchester, he was the youngest son of Robert A. and Florence P. (Silva) Hatcher. He graduated from Story High School and attending Bentley School of Accounting until the lure of horticulture led him to found his own company, Hatcher Landscaping. 

An honorably discharged veteran, Bill served his country in the U.S. Army with the First Medical Battalion during the Vietnam War. Dedicated to community service, he assisted the Town of Manchester on multiple boards and committees, the most notable as Chairman of the Board of Selectman and the School Committee. Bill was also a devoted member of the flock at Our Lady of Good Voyage.

Bill enjoyed golfing, reading and listening to classical music, but his passion was cruising and horticulture. He loved his family first and foremost. He is survived by his wife Thalia, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage; two sons William Jr. and Robert and one daughter Melissa; two daughters- 

in-law Leigh and Samar and one son-in-law Bradford. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Aden and Maya. He is also survived by three of his sisters, Florence, Sylvia and Eleanor, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. 

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Voyage, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester at 9:30 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, October 1, from 5-7 pm at Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Jimmy Hatcher Scholarship Fund c/o Manchester Club lnc.,P.O. Box 364, Manchester, MA 01944.
