Born in Beverly to the late George H. And Josephine (Scott) Hobbs.  She graduated from Story High School in Manchester Class of 1961 and Bay State College in Boston.  It was at Story High School where she met beloved husband Laurie McCoy sharing over 56 years of marriage and friendship together.

Virginia worked at GMC Financial in Lynn followed by Brookwood School in Manchester where she began as a typist helping with the 1975 self-evaluation report and later transitioning to an Administrative Assistant.  The Brookwood News coined Ginny as, “the one person whom we would all be lost without”.  In her 33-year career at Brookwood, Ginny helped transform the school and was an indispensable pillar in the community for staff, students, and parents alike.  She has been called a “green blooded Brookwood cheerleader” and someone who always embodied the Brookwood spirit.

She was a member of the Manchester by the Sea Booster Club, a devout member of First Parish Church, superintendent of Sunday School, and sang in the church choir.

She was the mother of two sons, Scott McCoy, Christopher McCoy and his wife Wendy both of Manchester by the Sea.  Survived by sisters Nancy A. Hall of Beverly and Cynthia Mitchell of New Hampshire, both originally of Manchester by the Sea.

Proud grandmother of Jake and his husband Johan, Nolan, Molly, Christopher (Mac); brothers-in-law Craige McCoy and his wife Mary of Manchester by the Sea, Arthur McCoy and his wife Violet of Florida; nephews David and his wife Natalie, Mark and his wife Heather, Steven McCoy, Kevin McCoy and his wife Denise, Artie McCoy and his wife Michelle; nieces Lisa Maurath and her husband Chris, Deborah Johnson, Dee Helton and her husband Lance, Betsy McCoy.

She was predeceased by brothers-in-law Ralph Hall, Linwood Mitchell; sister-in-law Marcia McCoy; nephews David Johnson and Jeff Hall.

Virginia lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and educator.  She loved to cook, kept an immaculate house, and was happiest while on the beach in Saint Maarten or hosting friends and family at their Pine Street home.  She especially loved celebrating the Fourth of July with her friends and family while enjoying the Manchester parade festivities.
