Louise J. Wilson, 94, of Choate Street in Essex, wife of the late Robert A. Wilson, died Tuesday, April 14, 2020 in the Beverly Hospital following her brief illness.
Born in Lowell on September 20, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Viola (Knowlton) Summit. She was raised in Wenham, spent summers in North Carolina, and attended Beverly public schools. She was married in Georgia in 1945 and made her home in Florida before relocating to the home they built on Choate Street in Essex. In addition to raising a family Louise was employed over the years as a waitress in several North Shore restaurants and was also employed at the original Dawson’s hardware in North Beverly.
A talented crafter, she enjoyed knitting, quilting and braiding rugs, and won several blue ribbons at the Topsfield Fair for her favorite Japanese Bunka creations. She maintained a wonderful home garden and was fond of telling the story of her 1947 opening day deer hunt, when she spotted and brought down a buck that dressed at 192 pounds. Most of all, she loved spending time with all of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ipswich VFW #1093 Woman’s Auxiliary and the Essex Council on Aging. She is survived by three sons, James Wilson and his wife Tammy, Peter Wilson all of Essex, Jon “Danny” Wilson and his wife Louella of Spanaway, WA; daughter-in-law, Barbara Jobe of Gloucester; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a brother, George Summit and his wife Joanne of Raymond, NH; a sister, Priscilla Wallace of Middleton; a sister-in-law Kay Summit of Beverly and several nephews, nieces and cousins. She was the mother of the late Robert Jobe formerly of Gloucester; mother-in-law of the late Collette Wilson formerly of Essex and sister of the late Clayton, Charles and Ronald Summit.
