Dale A. Spencer, 78, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, February 23.  He is survived by wife Pamela (nee Booz); mother Rachel (she’s 105!); sister Montoya; son Bill; daughter Jean and her husband, Dallas; daughter Amy and her husband, Dan; grandchildren Felix Raleigh and Cordelia Forrest; niece Alicia and her husband Basil, and their children Samuel and Nathaniel.  Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Ohio, Dale moved to Maine for college, and then to Massachusetts after graduate school.  A life-long sailor, he moved to Manchester-by-the-Sea upon seeing the harbor and train station.  An editor by trade and lover of language, he confused many by naming his sailboats, “Euphonious Whale.”  Friends are encouraged to visit with the family at an open house in the family home this Sunday, March 1, anytime between noon and 5ish.  A memorial sail will be planned for later in the year.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests you do something Dale loved: chop and stack wood; go for a walk; go sailing; go swimming; read a book; or just have a rum and coke.
