Bruce G. Hudson

Bruce G. Hudson, 78, beloved husband of Susan L. (Beverett) Hudson for 52 years, passed away Monday, September 14, at his home.  Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late George Francis and Esther (Listchook) Hudson.

During his life, Bruce served as a police officer, firefighter, federal investigator, and he was on the ground floor in the development of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' child safety program.  Prior to working for the Commonwealth, he was a freight and tow captain, serving Tidewater, Inc. in Mexico and the UAE.  Bruce served his country during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion Post 113.  He was also a member of The Elks Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters Shawna Phoenix of Gloucester and Shelly Hudson and her husband Brendan Oldham of Ft. Collins, CO; one grandchild Willow Phoenix of Gloucester; one sister Winnie Swanton of New Smyrna, FL; a former son-in-law Kevin Phoenix of Essex and seven nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two sisters Brenda Hutchinson and Linda Shea.

A graveside service will be held for Bruce in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Manchester by the Sea on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 12 p.m.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital (stjude.org) or Boston Children's Hospital (childrenshospital.org).
