Political platform statement

Sarah Wilkinson of Rockport is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Massachusetts House 5th Essex District seat in the special election to fill the vacancy left by the death of Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante.  She is a write in candidate for the March 3 primary election.

A longtime civic leader, Wilkinson served for 18 years on the Rockport Select Board, where she was known for her steady leadership and deep engagement in local governance.

Wilkinson was the first candidate to enter the race, announcing her campaign in early December with a focus on community stewardship, public service, and continuity of representation for Cape Ann. She frames her candidacy around bringing practical problem-solving and accessible constituent service to the State House, drawing on nearly two decades of experience working on municipal issues and town budgets in Rockport.

In campaign materials, Wilkinson positions herself as someone rooted in local concerns — from supporting small businesses to advocating for responsible growth and quality of life issues across the four-town district. She emphasizes collaboration and listening to residents as central to her approach, saying she felt called to “move forward and share the light that Ann-Margaret was,” while acknowledging the scale of the loss Ferrante’s passing created across the region.

If nominated, Wilkinson would face the Republican primary winner in the March 31 special election.
