Political platform statement

Dru Tarr of Gloucester is a Democratic candidate for the Massachusetts House 5th Essex District seat in the special election to succeed the late Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante. Tarr served for years as Ferrante’s research and district director, giving him extensive experience in state government operations and constituent services across the Cape Ann communities of Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Rockport, and Essex.

A lifelong resident of Gloucester, Tarr entered the race in early December, emphasizing his commitment to continuity and deep familiarity with the day-to-day responsibilities of the office.  His campaign message centers on preserving the level of responsiveness and hands-on support that Ferrante brought to the district, with a focus on addressing local needs through effective representation at the State House.  Tarr has highlighted his work on behalf of Cape Ann residents on issues ranging from infrastructure to public services, and he positions himself as a candidate who knows both how state government works and how to get results for constituents.

In campaign communications, Tarr underscores his belief in steady, experienced leadership and in building on Ferrante’s legacy of constituent care.  If nominated in the March 3 Democratic primary, he will face the Republican primary winner in the March 31 special election.
