MBTS Sustainability Committee: Don't trash broken holiday light strings!

Posted
This week's message from the Manchester by the Sea Sustainability Committee is this: don't trash broken holiday light strings!
Holiday tree light strings and electrical wires, such as extension cords, are classified as "tanglers" and cannot typically be placed in the recycling bin for pickup by municipal services.  However, the committee says both string lights and electrical wires contain copper, which has market value and can be salvaged.
Residents in Manchester can drop off surplus or broken light strings in the dedicated bin provided at the Manchester by the Sea Transfer Station on upper Pine Street in the Limited Commercial District during days open to the public (Wednesdays and Saturdays).
