Irene Moniz, known as Renee, passed away in her sleep on New Years Eve 2024 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida at the age of 98.  She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, George Moniz Sr., who passed in 2017.  Born in Fall River, MA to Valerie and Pietr Dopart, Renee was the last living of 13 siblings, 6 boys and 7 girls.

She was the beloved cook at Brookwood School in Manchester for decades.  Renee and George were among the first employees at the school, starting in 1956.  After retiring in 1989, the couple lived on Old Essex Road in Manchester.  As a widow, Renee started spending more time in Florida especially in the winter.  In 2021 Renee moved to the Brookdale Retirement community in Palm Beach Gardens, FL to be near one of her sons.

Renee loved spending time at the family lake cottage in New Hampshire in the summer and winter, playing cribbage with the Manchester Cribbage Club, traveling with the Golden Ages Club, teaching kids cribbage at the Manchester Library, taking cruises in the Caribbean and Australia, and walking on Singing Beach.  She loved to garden and after retirement tended to flowers and vegetables at their house on Old Essex Road and then at The Plains.

Renee is survived by her two sons, George Moniz Jr of Costa Mesa CA and Mike Moniz and his partner Sam Underwood of Jupiter FL. Renee was predeceased by her daughter in law Sharon (Silva) Moniz of Costa Mesa, CA and her granddaughter Jennifer (Moniz) Smith of Cody, WY.

Renee leaves three grandchildren, Charlie Moniz of Marblehead, MA and his wife Dina Moniz, Emily Moniz of Boston, MA and her partner Joseph Strafaci, and Henry Moniz of Poland, ME and his fiancé Amber Saucier.  Renee had 3 great grandchildren, Sam Moniz, Lila Moniz and Sidney Moniz, all of Marblehead.

Renee’s smile, humor and love, along with her homemade Polish pierogi and gulomkis, chicken pot pie and cabbage pie will be missed by all her family and all those who had the privilege to know and love her.

A private family service will be held this summer.
