Mrs. Susan Louise Hudson, known lovingly to many as Susie, passed away on September 15, 2026, in Alexander City, Alabama, at the age of 81.
Born on May 30, 1945, in Montgomery, Alabama, Susie carried with her throughout her life the warmth, grace, and strength of her Southern roots. She was a woman of steady determination and quiet charm, and those who knew her will remember her as a delightful character whose presence brought energy and kindness to every room she entered. Her life was marked by dedication, accomplishment, and a genuine appreciation for the people and places that shaped her journey.
Susie devoted much of her professional life to the New England PGA of America, where she worked for 30 years. Through years of commitment, hard work, and leadership, she rose through the organization and ultimately served as Executive Director. Her career reflected not only her strong work ethic but also her ability to lead with integrity, professionalism, and a deep respect for the game and the community around it. Her influence was lasting, and her contributions were so meaningful that the Hudson Cup was named in her honor, a tribute to the respect and admiration she earned over the course of her career.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Susie embraced life with enthusiasm and a spirit of adventure. She and her husband owned several sailboats, and together they developed a deep love for sailing. They spent many happy hours aboard their boats, exploring the waters around Boston and along the New England coast. These journeys were among the pleasures she cherished most, offering her both peace and joy as she took in the beauty of the sea and the companionship of shared experience. Sailing became more than a pastime for Susie. It was a reflection of the way she lived, with curiosity, appreciation, and a readiness to enjoy the world around her.
Susie will be remembered for her remarkable career, her love of sailing, and the warmth she shared with others throughout her life. She had a way of making people feel welcome and valued, and her humor, personality, and gracious spirit left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, in the organization she served so faithfully, and in the memories of the beautiful days she spent on the water.
She is survived by her daughters, Shawna (Shane) Phoenix and Shelly (Brenden) Hudson; granddaughter, Willow Anleigh Phoenix; brother, James Harold Beverett, Jr.; and special friend, Stephanie (Kevin) Bell.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Harold Beverett, Sr.; mother, Margaret Ann Beverett; husband, Bruce George Hudson; and sister, Charlotte Fuller.
Her life stands as a testament to dedication, resilience, and joy. Though she is no longer with us, the memory of Susan Louise Hudson will remain a source of comfort and admiration to those who loved her and to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
