Konrad Aleksander Makowski, of Boston, MA, passed away suddenly while overseas on February 23, 2026, in Glyfada, Greece at age 65. Konrad was born July 22, 1960, and grew up in Manchester-by-the-Sea. He is an alumnus of Shore Country Day School, Brooks School in Andover and Manchester High School. He received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from UMass Lowell. After graduating, he worked at Bechtel Corporation on Boston's Big Dig. He later joined his father's company and was very proud to be part of the leading energy development firm, J. Makowski Associates, until its acquisition. Konrad stayed involved with many independent infrastructure and energy projects and invested in innovative technologies for several decades to follow.
He also supported the arts and various community initiatives in Boston since the early 1990’s and was a founder of K&T Lionheart Gallery on Newbury Street (1992-2002). This was an early project space providing a launching pad to hundreds of emerging artists, many of whom have become renowned. Konrad's congenial manner, seeing the best in others were enormously beneficial qualities in his work with creative and talented people. His welcoming demeanor made his latest project space, Flowering Rock (2015-present), a destination on 1st Fridays, the monthly happenings in SoWa, known as The Art & Design District of Boston.
Many of his endeavors involved family enterprises and partnerships with his wife. His family was the most important and valued part of his life. He was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, stepfather and grandpa Koko. Konrad was known for his kind, loving, generous nature with an abundance of charisma. He was so personable and enjoyed the company of others, that he always made a lasting impression on anyone who met him. He loved the ocean, especially his beloved Singing Beach, and having his boat in the Boston Harbor. He was an avid scuba diver, loved skiing in Maine, as well as the occasional shoot in Scotland. He was a formidable presence at any game table, whether backgammon, chess or cards, and as a mathematician with luck, he played with skill and strategy to win.
He is survived by his wife Natasha, son Alek, stepson Zac, daughter-in-law Bridget, grandchildren Fiona and Peter, parents Jacek and Ursula, sisters Hala and Yolande, brother Thomas, sisters-in-law Mary and Alexandra, nephews John and Michael, and niece Sofia. He will always be in our hearts.
A memorial service for Konrad will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Beverly Farms on Sunday, May 24th at 1pm. The family will be hosting a reception immediately following the memorial service at their home on 3 Walker Road.
