This years Manchester Reads will focus on the environment, sustainability and answering the call to embrace and defend the natural world. During the month of March, the library will provide books and events that center around these important themes. The adult’s non-fiction book will be The Outdoor Citizen: Get Out, Give Back, Get Active by local Manchester resident John Judge. For kids we have the books, The Wishtree, by Katherine Applegate and Can you Hear the Trees Talking?, by Peter Wohllenben. For young adults we have, Dry, by Shusterman and no one is Too Small to Make a Difference, by Greata Thunberg.
Join us Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. as we casually share our gardening experiences, plans and make seeds available for each other to share and take home. The library has several quantities that have been donated or selected for this annual event and we welcome your participation. Gardeners of all ages are invited!
The library has received a small supply of tax forms you can take home. We have 1040 and 1040-SR booklet and instructions, and the Form 1 Massachusetts Resident Income Tax. Additionally, we have copies of federal tax forms and instructions that you are welcome to make copies of in the library.
The Adult Services Librarian Rachael Meneades will be offering device advice and tech help on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
The 7th Annual Peep Show, calling all ages! Create Diorama, using those deliciously sweet, marshmallow Peeps as you main characters. Dioramas and entry forms need to be submitted between March 23 and March 27, 2020. The public is then invited to view through April 3, 2020 and cast their vote for The Peeple’s Choice Award.
Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. The book group will discuss John Judge’s The Outdoor Citizen: Get Out, Give Back, Get Active.
Friday, March 13, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. the library will be showing a movie based on the real life battle between two popular motor companies to build a superior race car. This movies stars Matt Damon, Christian Bales and Caitriona Balfe. Bring your own drink, the library will supply popcorn.
Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 6;00 p.m. meet with members of the Elders Climate Action group to discuss a general overview of climate change followed by an information session on state and community level emissions, challenges and possible solutions. Presenters Arnold Epstein and Paul Reisberg are members of the Elders Climate Action, an organization of volunteers who came together throughout the United States to address climate change.
Thanks to a generous donation, the Manchester Library now offers a pass for four free admissions to the CuriousCity children’s museum in Peabody. Curious City is an indoor play area that hosts multiple interactive exhibits for children to enjoy learning experiences that use the power of play to nurture the imagination and engage families.
Join us to work on an old project, start a new one or just learn how! We frequently have experienced knitters attend so questions are welcome and the library has supplies of yarn and needles to get you started. Ages 7 and older can usually work the coordination of knitting so children, teens, and adults are all welcome. Crocheters, embroiderers, etc. all crafters welcome with your handwork every Wednesday, 2:30-3:30 p.m.in the Manchester by the Sea Public Library, December through March.
Join our circle of music, movement and simple stories on Wednesdays through May 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Room.
A special family story time Sundays through March 22 and 29, 2020 and April 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 2-6 with preschool teacher Melanie. NOTE: No program Sunday, February 16, 2020.
February 14, 2020 through March 15, 2020 the library will be collecting new PJs for children birth through teens for Massachusetts Department of Children & Families. Last year Massachusetts Libraries collected 13,000 pairs. The Boston Bruins will host raffle drawings and awesome prizes for the top donating Libraries so please donate today!
Sunday, March 15, 2020 @ 2:00 p.m. Families are invited to get acquainted with some of the creatures that will help us welcome springtime. Rick Roth of the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team will introduce animals from our local area that you may have never seen up close. After the presentation, there will be an optional walk to an easily accessible vernal pond in our own Powder House Hill Reservation which will soon come alive with the sounds of spring!
