Local Support For The USPS

Posted

The idea of supporting the US Postal System would have seemed unlikely, even odd, just months ago.  At least locally.  But recent cuts in funding have squeezed service and these protests are calling out the current Postmaster General for his role in the squeezing.

This particular issue does indeed hit home, at least for the Cricket.  With more than 90 percent of the paper’s distribution going to subscribers by postal carriers, this slowdown has caused some subscribers (especially in Florida, for some reason) to receive their papers up to four weeks after publication.  That’s “just the paper.”  Protests have focused on far more critical issues than newspapers.  Like prescription medicines.  Let’s hope this gets resolved.
