The summer camp of George R. Beaton in Essex was broken into this week and a .22 caliber rifle and a quantity of canned goods taken.
Story’s baseball nine won their first game of the season by defeating Essex, 14-3. Lees was on the mound for Manchester and hurled a fine game.
75 Years Ago – 1946
No new time tables will be available for the public distribution in connection with the suspension in train
services necessitated by the coal crisis, the Boston and Maine announced.
Sons and daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hurley are reported to still be serving their country after the war.

The Board of Assessors were pleased to announce on Thursday evening that the tax rate for 1961 has been figured at $59 per $1000 of valuation, down $1 from the 1960 rate.
Manager Joseph Raftery, of the Gloucester office of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, has announced that the phone users of Manchester have voted to extend the local calling area to include Gloucester.
45 Years Ago – 1976
Sunday, May 9 saw some 30-40 friends and relative gather to celebrate the 70th birthday of the youngest grandmother in Manchester, Gran Collens, in Essex at the American Legion Hall.
Stedman Shumway Hanks, a former resident of Manchester, has written a book, “Making An American,” under the penname Ivan Corrie.
30 Years Ago – 1991
The students in the Child Studies Class of Manchester Jr. Sr. High School have made a baby’s quilt for an infant afflicted with AIDS. This quilt will be donated to the New Hampshire-based Aids Baby Crib Quilt Project.
For the fourth time out of the last five years the girls’ tennis team at Manchester Jr. Sr. High School, under the coaching of Mrs. Rose Bottger, has qualified for the right to play in the State Tournament.

Selectman Jack Shea and Sue Thorne and Town Administrator Wayne Melville have met three times with Chief Ramos to discuss the findings and recommendations presented in the CTC Police Management Study Report.
Former Junior Yacht Club member and MSA instructor Caleb Silsby recently competed in Austria at the World Sailing Fames with fiancé Paige Hannon as crew.
