The Fire Department answered a call from box 41 last Sunday. They found a brisk grass fire near the West Manchester Depot which was quickly extinguished, with little or no damage.

Chief Andrews of the Police Department reports that since the inception of the dial telephone system in Manchester, several complaints have been made to the station by persons who have received anonymous calls.

Richard Ashton Hammond, 86, Manchester’s first permanent fire chief, passed away in Pinehurst, N.C. Chief Hammond formerly resided at 50 Pine Street.
Former Town Clerk, Edward P. Gavin, Sr. passed away unexpectedly. He served the town of Manchester as Town Clerk from 1981 – 1987.
