90 Years Ago – 1930

Miss Elsie Diamond graduated from Emerson College, receiving a B. L. I. degree.

Graduating from Hawthorne Institute, Salem, this week, were Harold Favazza, John White, Miss Florence Morse, Lewis Foster and J. Lawrence Gavazza.

75 Years Ago – 1945

Chief John P. Connors reports that most of the $8,000 worth of silverware reported stolen from the summer home of Maj. L. Foster, Smith’s Point, last winter has been recovered and that two Gloucester men had been arrested.

The tax rate for 1945 has been set at $26.40 per $1,000 the same as for last year.

60 Years Ago – 1975

One of the finest graduation ceremonies ever conducted from Manchester High School was that of last Friday when 106 young men and women received their diplomas before a standing room only crowd.

Following several complaints Chief of Police Steward F. Cooper is issuing a warning that within a few days he will start a drive on all autoists who fail to obey the laws of the roads within the limits of Manchester.

30 Years Ago – 1990

Members of Amaral-Bailey Post #113, the American Legion, as well as their counterparts around the nation are taking a stand against the recent arguments being aired nationally relative to the citizen’s right to burn or destroy the American Flag.  Part of that stand includes their request to townspeople to display their flags during proper hours everyday between Flag Day and July 4th.

15 Years Ago – 2005

The Manchester Essex Regional School Committee will discuss issues pertaining to the building project at their June 14 and June 21 meetings.

This year’s Manchester by the Sea Bazaar, sponsored by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, promises to be a day full of fun, food and lively entertainment.  Retail bargains, non-profit organizations, and an array of street entertainment will all come together on Saturday, July 30.
