Elizabeth Church King

Elizabeth Church King, 80, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 9. A New Year’s baby, she was born January 1st, 1941, in Boston to the late Frederic C. and Agnes D. (Boardman) Church.

Growing up with her four siblings on Beacon Street in Boston, she attended Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, then matriculated to Garland Junior College in Boston, including a year at The Sorbonne in Paris. Married in June of 1962 to Julien F. Begien (d), they had three children, Fred, Elizabeth “Bizzy” and Bill.

Affectionately known as Lisa, Rita, LQ, and most notably ZZ, our ZZ has gone to join her daughter Bizzy in heaven. While her loss brings us sorrow, we rejoice knowing she is reunited with Bizzy. She was an amazing woman who kept everyone on their toes. Beloved by the young and the old, her charm, wit and enthusiasm for everyday life were her greatest attributes. Lisa loved to cook, which led her to The Grange Gourmet in Lanesville where she worked for 15 years.  She also enjoyed exercise, whether it was playing tennis, working out with a trainer or commandeering a pool lane at Essex County Club or at The MAC. Lisa was also charitable, volunteering for years at Beverly Hospital and her continuing support of The Boys and Girls Club of Boston, an organization very dear to the hearts of the entire Church family. Foremost among all, was her devotion to her children, family and friends.

Lisa is survived by her two sons, Julien F.Begien and his wife Kimberly of Wenham and William C. Begien and his fiancée Kelly Gallagher of Newbury port; Three brothers, Frederic C. Church, Gerald B. Church, and Richard L. Church; and sister Diana C. Dohrmann; and three grandchildren, Austin, Lucas and Griffin Begien; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 17 for immediate family, with a Celebration of Life to follow in coming months for extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lisa’s name to The Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston https://www.bgcb.org/get-involved.
