To the Editor,
As voters in the Fifth Essex District prepare to choose our next state representative, I believe the choice is clear. I'm supporting Dru Tarr (again) because he has already demonstrated the experience, effectiveness, and bipartisan approach needed to deliver results for our communities.
Unlike his opponent, Dru Tarr entered the Legislature with real legislative experience. He understands how Beacon Hill works because he has spent years working in state government and public policy. That experience mattered from day one when he was elected to fill the seat vacated by Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante. Rather than spending months learning the ropes, Dru was able to get to work immediately, building relationships, advocating for the district, and making sure our communities had a knowledgeable voice at the State House.
One of the issues that sets Dru apart is his commitment to addressing Massachusetts' housing crisis. Young families, working professionals, and seniors are all feeling the impact of rising housing costs. Dru recognizes that increasing the supply of affordable and workforce housing is essential to keeping our communities vibrant and ensuring that people who work here can afford to live here. He's focused on practical solutions that balance growth with preserving the character of our neighborhoods instead of relying on slogans or partisan talking points.
Equally important is Dru's ability to work across the aisle. At a time when politics too often rewards division, he has shown that meaningful progress comes from listening, building consensus, and working with people who may not agree on every issue. That's the kind of leadership our district deserves. Legislators don't succeed by endlessly repeating silly slogans —they succeed by building coalitions that produce real results for the people they represent.
Since taking office, Dru has shown that he can effectively step into Representative Ferrante's shoes while bringing his own thoughtful, collaborative style to the job. He has been engaged, responsive, and focused on delivering for the district rather than advancing a political agenda wrapped in trumpian nonsense. His work has reflected a commitment to public service, not political theater.
It's also worth noting that Dru represents a pragmatic, independent-minded approach to governing. He isn't interested in importing the kind of divisive, grievance-driven politics we have seen repeatedly from the extremists. Instead, he has consistently focused on solving problems, respecting democratic institutions, and representing everyone in the district, regardless of party affiliation.
Experience matters. Results matter. The ability to work with others matters. Dru Tarr has already shown he possesses all three. Our district benefits from having a representative who understands the legislative process, is committed to making housing more affordable, and has proven he can bring people together to get things done.
For those reasons, I hope my fellow voters will join me in supporting Dru Tarr for State Representative in the Fifth Essex District.
