Wendy L. DeMille

Posted

Wendy L. DeMille, a longtime resident of the South End in Boston, Mass., passed away early Monday morning in the loving care of the palliative medicine staff at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  Wendy had been diagnosed with oral cancer about one year prior and after a valiant battle succumbed to complications arising from her illness.

Wendy was born at Boston Lying-In Hospital on September 18, 1955, and lived her early years in Dorchester, Mass., before moving with her family to Manchester in 1965.  Wendy was active in summer theater productions and traveled abroad studying for a time at Oxford University in England.

Wendy enrolled in Simmons College and received her degree in history in 1978.  While attending Simmons she began her employment at Massachusetts General Hospital supporting patients on floors in the Bulfinch and White Buildings before working with the Drs. Nina Tolkoff-Rubin and Robert Rubin in the Dialysis and Transplant Division.  Wendy remained at MGH for 50 years, most recently supporting doctors in the Fellowship program.  She followed in her mother’s legacy of unselfish public service helping train more than 350 doctors during her tenure.

Wendy enjoyed traveling, shopping, collecting, and dining out, but her real love was spending time with her friends and family.  She was a loyal and caring friend and sustained many life-long connections.  She was surrounded by that love during her last days.

Wendy was predeceased by her mother, Carole M. DeMille, and her father, Alfred J. DeMille. She is survived by her brother, Theodore DeMille, and a community of loving friends and family.

A memorial service for Wendy will be held at the Russell Museum at MGH, 2 N. Grove St, Boston, MA 02114 on May 13 from 5-7 pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.  Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, MA.  Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.
