Support Dexter Lee-Viator for Essex Selectman

To the Editor,

I am writing in support of Dexter Lee-Viator for Essex Selectman. As a lifelong, multigenerational resident of Essex, I care deeply about our town and its continued success.

I have known Dexter since childhood, with my earliest memories of him at Park Program behind the old police station and running around Woodman’s with the rest of the extended Woodman’s clan.  From our young adult years spent together working clambakes to now, in adulthood, where I had the privilege of helping him and his husband purchase their home in Essex, I have watched that connection continue over time.  Throughout all of these stages of life, I have not only enjoyed being around Dexter, but I have also deeply respected him and the kind of person he is and the character he consistently leads with.

Dexter brings a thoughtful and fresh perspective.  Through his work in higher education and nonprofit food security, he has developed strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach to serving community needs.

Like many residents, I am mindful of rising taxes and appreciate his commitment to responsible decision-making that avoids unnecessary burden.  I support his focus on strengthening local businesses, which are vital to Essex’s character and economy.

I also value his efforts to make town meetings and local government more accessible and easier to understand, helping more residents stay informed and engaged.

I respect anyone willing to serve in public office and am grateful for those who have served before.  I believe Dexter offers a strong opportunity to help move Essex forward in a positive direction.

Sincerely,

Lauren Mears Burroughs
