Ukrainian Flag Doesn’t Belong on a Church

Posted

To the Editor,

I am writing to express my concern and confusion regarding the presence of a Ukrainian flag outside of our local Catholic Church. As a member of this community, I am troubled by the display of a political flag in front of a place of worship, as it brings to mind the divisions and conflicts that continue to plague our world.

Ukraine is a country that has been involved in unethical actions towards children and humans, and as a church that preaches love and compassion, I find it contradictory that we are displaying a flag of a country with such actions.

I am left wondering why the Catholic Church in our town has chosen to hang a flag that could potentially stir up political tensions and further divide our communities. Shouldn't a church be a place for unity and peace, rather than a platform for political messages?

During these difficult times of separation and unrest in our country, it is important for us to stand united as Americans. Seeing the local church with a flag that divides us only adds to the sense of discord and unease in our community.
I strongly believe that we should instead focus on what unites us, such as the American flag. Our country, the United States of America, is a diverse and beautiful nation that we should be proud of.
The American flag symbolizes unity, freedom, democracy, and values that we should uphold in our community and in our church

I urge the leadership of Sacred Heart to reconsider their decision to hang the Ukrainian flag and to focus on the teachings of God rather than engaging in political gestures. Let us keep our churches sacred and free from political agendas, allowing us to come together in prayer and unity.

God Bless,
Kim Kahan
