Thank You Harbormaster Bion Pike

Posted

To the Editor,

On a recent Saturday late afternoon, our 19-foot O'Day sailboat unfortunately started to sink at its mooring in the harbor.  That's an awful sight.

I want to thank Bion Pike, the harbormaster, for alerting us and for spending his Saturday evening rescuing our nearly submerged O'Day.  Certainly, he had other plans. We were able to get out to the boat just after he did, working together to right and bail the soggy hull.  Somehow, he had managed to bring out a second boat so that he could expertly sandwich ours between his two boats and guide it back to the Town dock.

We do have SeaTow (the service recommended by our Harbor Dept.), but between the heavy sea state that evening and the distance to bring a crew from Boston, they could not render service.  Bion was a hero, and he has our immense gratitude.
