To the Editor,
We invite you to look up at the ongoing steeple restoration happening in the center of town. The tall steeple and clock face greet us each morning and stand as a fixture in our town’s night sky. Trustees at First Parish Church have consulted with American Steeple & Tower Co. to identify a series of areas that require immediate support:
New copper clad roofing
Replace existing columns
New lighting on steeple and clock faces
Paint/coat all surfaces
Gilding on the weather cock
To help with these repairs the church has received a grant from the Community Preservation Act, a benevolent gift from long time member, Laura Ells, and donations to our ongoing Steeple Funds -- including the Vincent Terrill Steeple Fund. We hope to raise an additional $30,000 to restore this cherished town structure and preserve it for generations to come.
If you can help -- checks can be mailed to First Parish Church P.O. Box 187, Manchester, MA 01944, please note “steeple” on your check. Online donations can be made at firstparishchurch.org/steeple or by dropping a donation at the church.
As someone recently said “It’s a town treasure. It’s part of our town’s history and our future.” We appreciate your support.
