Stephen A. McCoy, 61, passed away suddenly on July 25, 2026. Born on June 23, 1965, in Beverly, Massachusetts, Steve was raised in Manchester-by-the-Sea, where he developed the warmth, wit, and creativity that would define his life.
Steve was the beloved son of Beverly Melvin, Allen C. McCoy, and his stepmother, Mary McCoy. He was predeceased by his stepfather, William Melvin, and his stepbrothers, Keith and Kevin Rose.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted partner, Cory Davenport of Long Island, whose love and unwavering support meant the world to him. He also leaves behind his brothers, Kevin McCoy and his wife, Denise; Mark McCoy and his wife, Heather; and his stepsister, Kim Rose.
He is also survived by his step-siblings, William Melvin and his wife, Beth Ann; Wallace Melvin and his wife, Natalie; Johanna Rogers and her husband, Rick; and Tina Dupuis and her husband, Brad. Steve will also be deeply missed by his godmother, Holly and her husband, Pete; his loving Uncle Laurie McCoy; his Aunt Tansy Walker; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Steve graduated from Manchester High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Miami. His love of acting flourished during summers performing at the Killington Playhouse in Vermont, where he developed his passion for the theater and created lasting memories and friendships.
His passion for the stage continued throughout his life as he performed in numerous productions, most notably with Theatre Three on Long Island. His extraordinary talent earned him widespread admiration, including the BroadwayWorld Long Island Award for Best Actor in a Musical. At the time of his passing, Steve was eagerly looking forward to portraying Neil Diamond in the upcoming national tour of A Beautiful Noise—a dream role that reflected the remarkable talent, dedication, and passion he brought to every performance.
To those who knew him, Steve was much more than an accomplished actor. He was kind, generous, funny, and fiercely loyal. He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh, bring people together, and leave every room brighter than he found it. His love for family, friends, and the theater was evident in everything he did.
Steve’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who loved him, but his spirit will live on through the memories he created, the performances that inspired audiences, and the love he shared so freely. Though his final curtain came far too soon, the impact of his life will never fade.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 21, at 12:00 noon at Rosedale Cemetery in Manchester-by-the-Sea. A celebration of Steve’s life will immediately follow at the American Legion, 14 Church Street, Manchester-by-the-Sea.
