The story that made national news—a seal trapped in Shoe Pond off Beverly’s Cummings Center that managed to “walk” by himself to the Beverly Police Dept.—is now a “merch worthy” phenomenon.
Nicknamed “Shoebert” by adoring fans, this seal captured the public’s attention by making himself at home around Beverly. Finally, on Sept. 22 Shoebert was relocated to the ocean.
Now local retailers are capitalizing on Shoebert’s notoriety. At Sweetwater, a boutique and gift shop in Beverly Farms, Shoebert stuffed animal ($19.50) and tee shirts ($24) are selling like hotcakes. Get ‘em while they’re hot.
