Beach Street Studios & Gallery kicks off its second year with Awaken, a show focused on fresh starts and new beginnings.  The show runs March 27 to May 10.

The gallery’s latest exhibition finds inspiration in the sunrise, springtime, and fresh perspectives.  The show features works by familiar faces like Marian Colman, Emer McCourt, Olga Hayes, and Mike Storella, as well as local artists exhibiting at this gallery for the first time, including Vanessa Milchalak, Brett Gamache, Dave Hogan, Amy Sudarsky, Jim Kociuba and Mark Bappe.  Awaken includes new work by several Beach Street Studios artists-in-residence as well.  “The jury was impressed with the range and quality of the art submissions interpreting the theme,” reports Kate Taylor, a co-owner of the gallery.  “We love the way these works of art relate to one another and reflect quiet transformation.”  A full list of exhibiting artists is available at beachstreetstudiosandgallery.com.

The gallery will host a spring-themed cocktail reception on Friday, April 10 from 5 to 8 pm. The public is welcome to meet the Awaken artists and explore the new artwork.

Even during the sleepy winter months, the artists at Beach Street Studios & Gallery were buzzing with creativity.  Local artist and co-owner Courtney Kelly continued teaching her popular children’s art class, and the studio launched a new course in modern art geared toward teens taught by artist and co-owner Kat Chrzanowski.  The studio is hosting local ceramicist Kristen Brousseau of Ceramica del Mar as a guest teacher for a hand-built ceramics class on April 14 and 28.

Beach Street Studios & Gallery has been active in the community, too.  “We were thrilled to participate in MERSD’s STEAM Night with a booth demonstrating the grid method for proportionally enlarging an image,” says Chrzanowksi.  “The artwork created by students at the event can be found on our website.”  The gallery also hosted an exhibition of artwork by high school AP Studio Art and AP Photography students.

Looking ahead, Beach Street Studios & Gallery will present Collecting: An Affordable Art Show this summer from May 22 to August 16.  Each piece of artwork will be priced at under $500.  “Affordable art shows are very popular right now,” says Sarah Chamberlain, an artist and co-owner at the gallery.  “If you’re new to the art world, they’re a great way to start building an art collection; if you’re already a connoisseur, it’s the perfect opportunity to discover new artists and curate your collection of small works.”
