To the Editor,

MECT is delighted to present Sara Lewis, Ph.D., the keynote speaker for our 2024 Annual Meeting. Lewis is a biologist and professor emerita at Tufts who has spent the past thirty years studying firefly behavior, ecology, and evolution. She currently coordinates global firefly conservation efforts as co-chair of the IUCN Firefly Specialist Group. In addition to writing scientific articles, Prof. Lewis has given a TED talk and has written popular articles for Scientific American, CNN, The Guardian, and National Wildlife, and has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and BBC. She is the author of Silent Sparks: The Wondrous World of Fireflies. Join us for an entertaining journey and fascinating look into their luminous lives! The MECT Annual Meeting takes place on November 3, 2024 at 5 pm at Riversbend Restaurant, 35 Dodge Street in Essex. We’ll have a short Annual Meeting to elect officers and trustees, and to present 2023 financial results, 2024 activities and updates, and to discuss our plans for the future. Then we’ll turn it over to Professor Lewis! We look forward to gathering with our community and sharing this upbeat and fascinating lecturer. Riversbend Restaurant in Essex is generously hosting us. Enjoy their wood-fired pizza, courtesy of our sponsors, and a cash bar. Please register for this event online. Sincerely,
Patrice Murphy
