Percussion Spotlight: Beyond Drums

CA Symphony Launches This Season’s Musicians Unleashed Concert Series Oct. 25

The Cape Ann Symphony Orchestra (CAS) will kick off its 2025/26 Musicians Unleashed concert series with a lively and immersive showcase titled Percussion: Beyond Drums, on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Gloucester.  The performance will feature the orchestra’s full percussion section and explore the question: What is a percussion instrument?

The concert is the first in the season’s Musicians Unleashed series, a more intimate, musician-curated concert program that has grown increasingly popular since its launch in 2019.  Saturday’s program promises an energetic, family-friendly experience spotlighting the creativity and versatility of percussion in all its forms.

“We are looking forward to a fun and entertaining afternoon,” said Barbara Cox, CAS Board member and Director of Marketing.  “There are surprises planned for the audience as our talented group of professional percussionists show us that percussion can be far more than drums!”

Performing in the October 25 concert will be Principal Percussionist Frank Kumiega, along with percussionists Matt Persing and Beth Munn-Griffin, and Principal Timpanist Jeremy Lang.  Together, they bring decades of regional and national performance experience—from symphonic and chamber music to musical theater and jazz—and are known for their ability to make rhythm come alive on stage.

Tickets are $40.  Seating is general admission and the venue is accessible.  All proceeds support the Cape Ann Symphony’s mission to bring exceptional live music to the North Shore.
