Community Awards 

Magoon Bowl Award:

Maya Baker 

The Magoon Bowl Award is presented to the student who made the most improvement academically while in high school. It is given in memory of Bruce and Alice Magoon who together gave 42 years of service to the youth at Manchester from 1960 to 1989. Bruce was a teacher, coach, assistant principal, guidance counselor, director of guidance and special education administrator. Alice was a teacher and tutor. Their lives were dedicated to assisting students who needed a helping hand which was often the catalyst for dramatic changes in a student’s performance in school. Their positive spirit encouraged many to make themselves better. This award honors that spirit.

Daughters of the American Revolution Award:

Penelope Rodier 

The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award is intended to reward a member of the senior class for the qualities of good citizenship. The student selected as the school's DAR Good Citizen has the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism to an outstanding degree. 

Massachusetts Girls State Program:

Abigail Conway 

The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors one girl from the junior class chosen by the MERHS faculty to attend the Massachusetts Girls State Program. 

The weeklong program takes place at Stonehill College in June. Girls State is a study of local and state government in which students establish and govern their own cities, towns and states. The junior selected to represent MERHS at Girls State has high moral character, an above average scholastic standing and respect for the flag. 

Massachusetts Boys State Program:

Elias Heanue, Franklin Wood 

The American Legion Amaral Bailey Post #113 sponsors two boys from the junior class chosen by the MERHS faculty to attend the Massachusetts Boys State Program. The weeklong program takes place Stonehill College in June. Boys State is a leadership action program that focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials. Students take part in a practical government course designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government. The two juniors selected to represent MERHS at Boys State are strong students, good citizens and have leadership potential.
