On Saturday, October 25, the Manchester Essex Regional High School Debate Team participated in the Tim Averill Online Tournament, gathering together at the high school to compete virtually.
Five Manchester Essex teams took part in the Novice Public Forum division: Lily Berkowitz and Stella Langille; Abby Borgerson and Claire Yukins; Annabelle Kerivan and Rosie Renehan; Asa Bardsley and Liem Lunt; and Simone Argento and James Lamb.
The team of Annabelle Kerivan and Rosie Renehan earned a winning record, qualifying for States to be held this spring — an impressive accomplishment, especially for Novice competitors. Annabelle also distinguished herself by placing 4th in the overall speaker category, while Rosie earned 11th place, showcasing strong individual skills alongside their team success.
“I am incredibly proud of our students for the dedication they showed at our very first tournament,” said Debate Director Sally Berkowitz. “We have a young team made up mostly of ninth graders, and they are learning quickly. With continued practice, I expect them to perform exceptionally well this year and we are excited for our upcoming tournaments in November and December.”
The results highlight the talent, preparation, and commitment of all Manchester Essex debaters, who continue to grow their skills and represent the school with pride.
