Letter To The Editor: Housing For People Of All Incomes Strengthens MBTS

To the Editor:

The spirit of community is thriving in Manchester-by-the-Sea (MBTS) and we can all be thankful.  A few short months ago, in the depths of winter (and a pandemic), a group of citizens began meeting weekly on Zoom to address Manchester’s need for affordable housing.  The group is called CIMAH (Citizens Initiative for Affordable Housing) and their mission is clear.   The community needs to come together and act expeditiously, because the need is urgent.  Housing for people of all incomes strengthens our small town, but has to be truly affordable and an integral part of our community.

Towns all across the Commonwealth are struggling to satisfy the need for housing for teachers, town employees, and essential workers.  Last week, through the efforts of CIMAH and many generous donors, Manchester succeeded in preserving 29 naturally affordable apartment units at 1-3 Powder House Lane.  We can all be proud and grateful for the efforts of this group of citizens—our neighbors and friends.  If you want to learn more about CIMAH or join its efforts to foster affordable housing in Manchester, visit the organization’s website.  All are welcome.
