Hurray to ME Hornets Football

Posted

To the Editor,

I was at one of the Tuesday evening summer concerts at Masconomo Park a while back and was wondering what a bunch of young men wearing MERHS fooball jerseys were doing there.  Then I noticed a chaotic, joyful wiffleball game in progress on the baseball diamond, with a pack of little kids buzzing around, sort of supervised by these football players.

Then, a couple weeks ago, came an email blast from Manchester Essex Conservation Trust showing Hornets football players at work replacing footbridges on woodland trails near the Pine Street trailhead.  The perfect match of work and brawn!

I am far removed from the high school days of my kids, not to mention my own MHS career, and I don't know much at all about coach Nicholas Broughton, but it is commendable and impressive that he's got these guys out there in the "pre-season" doing this fun work in the community.  Or even more impressive if it's self-directed by the players themselves.  In any case: Bravo!
