Last week, Manchester Memorial Elementary School held its first enrichment event of the 2022-2023 school year. Jim Parks from Wingmasters returned to wow the children with five different birds of prey.
The five birds of prey today were the American Kestrel Falcon, the Red-Tailed Hawk, the Barred Owl, the Great Horned Owl, and the Northern Saw-Whet Owl. These birds were chosen because they live in Manchester. Jim conducted three presentations to the pre-K through fifth grade students.
The students were actively engaged in the presentation and there was a wonderful exchange of questions and answers.
Wingmasters is dedicated to increasing understanding and appreciation of North American birds of prey. The group cares for injured birds with the goal releasing them back into the wild. In some cases, birds are permanently handicapped and become non-releasable raptors and are used for educational programs.
