Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce awards grant to Manchester Friends of COA

Posted

To the Editor,

A sincere thank‑you goes to Pat Glennon for securing an award on behalf of the Friends.  The Friends of the Manchester‑by‑the‑Sea Council on Aging have been selected to receive a $1,500 grant from the Cape Ann Community Foundation in support of their “Coffee and Conversation” program. This recognition celebrates the Friends’ dedication to offering a free snack while fostering community and joy each Monday morning.

Another sincere thank-you goes to Veronica Matthews.  About three years ago, Veronica—together with the support of the Friends of the Council on Aging—introduced the concept of a weekly Monday “Coffee and Conversation” gathering for senior citizens at the First Parish Church Hall.  Since then, the Friends have faithfully volunteered each week, setting the Hall with fresh coffee, tasty refreshments, and a welcoming atmosphere.  Attendance varies from week to week, but approximately 30 seniors participate each week.  The Friends also encourage senior volunteers to lead games and other activities, creating a strong sense of engagement and connection.  Currently, volunteers lead Five Crowns, Scrabble, Dominos, Cribbage and activities, making each Monday morning a lively, social, and truly community‑powered tradition.
