A special family outdoor performance fusing 80’s music, dance, and some serious comedy

at the magical setting of Windhover Performing Arts Center in Rockport from July 19- 23

The Gloucester Stage Company is pleased to present a special family outdoor performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. Brought to life by Gloucester Stage Youth Company and Education Director Katie Oberlander, this enchanting comedy will be staged July 19 through July 22 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, July 23 at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The outdoor performances are under the big tent at the Windhover Performing Arts Center located at 250 Granite Street in Rockport.

Shakespeare’s classic is going Dirty Dancing, Back to the Future, and all out 80’s in this family friendly performance. “Camp Athens” is a magical place, especially under the fairy moonlight! Four teenage lovers find out Love is Strange when their partners break things off before the big dance.  Love troubles aren’t just for teenagers, with even the Camp Headmasters falling into a lovers’ quarrel. And if that isn’t enough, the Camp Counselors are trying to rehearse a performance for the Big Dance – to no avail. Add in a magic potion capable of making anyone fall in love with the first person they set eyes on – What could possibly go wrong?

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the perfect show for our youth company to present at Windhover’s beautiful outdoor theatre. We’re planning an 80’s theme musical version of the show set in a summer camp, featuring dancing and singing to music of that period,” shared the DirectorKatie Oberlander. “Professional actors play key roles alongside our students ages 6-18, and the result is sure to be fun, entertaining, and magical!”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will run from Tuesday, July 19 through Friday, July 22 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, July 23 at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The outdoor performances are at the Windhover Performing Arts Center at 250 Granite Street, Rockport. Seating is general admission; the runtime is 90 minutes, appropriate for ages 6+. Tickets are now on sale and available at GloucesterStage.com.
