Dangerous Parking at North Street Four-Way Stop

Posted

To the Editor,

I am writing to draw attention to a serious safety hazard at the intersection of North Street and [cross street] in Manchester-by-the-Sea.  For months, vehicles have been parked within five feet of the stop sign, sometimes even on top of the painted stop line, creating a dangerous blind corner for drivers and pedestrians alike.

Despite repeated complaints to the police, the town manager, and other town officials — and even after new signage and curb painting — the problem has not been addressed.  Drivers approaching the intersection cannot reliably see oncoming traffic, which has become especially hazardous during winter conditions.

This is not a minor annoyance; it is a daily risk to everyone traveling this intersection.  I hope that shining a public light on this issue will prompt the town to take serious, effective action to ensure the safety of its residents.
