Catherine Fitzgerald Capello, 45, passed away Thursday, July 18 at Beverly Hospital. Born in Portsmouth, VA, she was the beloved daughter of Lenny and Jean (Fitzgerald) Capello of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA.

As a child of a military family, Catie, a proud “Navy Brat,” spent her student years in Hawaii, Japan, Europe, and the continental U.S.  Upon graduating high school with high honors, she attended the University of New Hampshire where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science.

Always a lover of learning, Catie continued onward to Emory University to pursue graduate studies in Neuroscience.  During her time at Emory, she co-authored several research papers which led to groundbreaking treatments for postpartum depression.  Following her time at Emory, she spent many years teaching STEM at the University of Hawaii.  In 2017, Catie returned to Manchester to care for beloved grandfather, Charlie Capello of 6 Ancient County Way.  Her expertise and love kept her grandfather safe and happy until the end of his life, providing much comfort and support to the rest of her family.

Catie as a voracious reader is best remembered with a book in her hand which she loved discussing with friends and family.  At home, she loved cooking, gardening, and walking the beach. She also will be remembered as a “wicked good” tennis player with a formidable two handed backhand!

In addition to her parents, Catie is survived by her brother John Capello and his wife, Jessica, of Bath. ME, her Uncle Charlie and Aunt Patti (Capello) Langmaid of Vail, CO, her Uncle Jim Fitzgerald and Aunt Virginia of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and her longtime partner Kyle Donoghue.
