The Manchester Woman’s Club announced the 2023 recipients of its two scholarships, given each year to graduates of Manchester-Essex Regional High School.

The club honors students who exemplify our values, including social, ethical, and intellectual interests, especially in service to others.   This year the Woman’s Club selected two students who seek to further their education in fields related to service and betterment of the lives of others.

“Thank you to all the applicants for this year, the number of qualified, deserving candidates was impressive,” said Charlotte Minasian, president of the Woman’s Club.  “Thanks to all the members of the Manchester Woman’s Club and our community who make it possible to support the future generations in their academic adventures.”

Catherine Carvalho received the Alice Forbes Perkins Hooper Scholarship, awarded to students intending to pursue a career in nursing, medicine, or an allied health field.  Catherine will be attending Pennsylvania State University with plans to study Biology.  In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society, Catherine has volunteered in many capacities in rehabilitation facilities, youth programs and church groups.  Her goal is to become a physical therapist, and we are thrilled to assist her in her future endeavors.

The Nathan B. Sargent Scholarship was awarded to Owen O’Leary, who will be enrolling at the University of Vermont to study Elementary Education.  Owen’s extracurricular activities have been wide ranging; from camp counselor and peer mentor to student government and performing arts.  Owen has set a goal to enter the teaching profession, and we wish him the best.
