To the Editor,
I am writing to express my support for Anne Manning Martin for Governors Council in the 5th District which includes Gloucester, Essex, Rockport, Manchester by the Sea and several other cities and towns. When you vote on November 5, one of the critical races on the ballot is Governor’s Council, a position of great importance though not widely known. The Massachusetts Governor’s Council is a governmental body that provides advice and consent on matters such as judicial nominations, pardons, and commutations to the Governor of Massachusetts. Currently, there are no Republicans serving on the Governor’s Council—a situation I hope will change on November 5.
Anne Manning Martin is a current Peabody City Councilor and a former member of the Peabody School Committee. As a former resident of Peabody, I have known Anne all my adult life. She is a graduate of Peabody High School, earned a degree in Criminal Justice from St. Anselm College, and holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. With a 30-year career in Corrections, Anne is currently the Deputy Superintendent for the Department of Corrections at the Shattuck Hospital Corrections Unit. She is exceptionally qualified for the position of Governor’s Council.
Anne has a well-earned reputation on the Peabody City Council for asking tough questions, being transparent, and thoroughly researching the issues presented before her. She will not be a rubber stamp as it relates to advising and consenting on judicial nominations, pardons, and commutations.
Please join me in voting for Anne Manning-Martin for Governor’s Council on Tuesday, November 5.
