To the Editor,
As I approach my 71st birthday and 38th year in business running Allen’s Pharmacy in Manchester, I want to thank everyone for the tremendous support through the years.
Creating a “General Store Philosophy” has allowed us to survive as an independent, prescription business. We’ve remained the last independently owned retail pharmacy on Cape Ann, and that is wonderful.
I love everything about our town of Manchester and serving our customers who know this and fully understand the importance of having a well-run pharmacy in our retail infrastructure. I may be turning 71, but with good health I honestly see no reason why I can’t continue as owner of Allen’s Pharmacy for at least the next five years, and hopefully longer!
That said, currently, our ability to operate at proper staffing levels is in jeopardy, especially in one narrow but critical service area—finding a dependable “Certified Pharmacy Technician.” After several years, our 30-hr/week technician is leaving.
I ask for any assistance in referring any potential candidates so we may continue to give you the excellent service Allen’s has historically offered. We’re open to part-time or full-time candidates, and believe Allen’s is a great place for someone who’s interested in an opportunity to work locally, serving residents in a small organization that is less stressful than a corporate pharmacy environment.
I am being realistic and, sadly, I know that retirement will be the option rather than operating an understaffed unorganized business.
Thanks again for the great support that has allowed Allen’s to operate since 1856.
