A Cape Ann tradition turns 40 this fall as the Essex ClamFest returns on Saturday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Shepard Memorial Park in Essex. The event will be held rain or shine, with Essex Elementary School as the backup location in case of inclement weather.
Admission is free, and more than 1,000 visitors are expected.
The event is hosted each year by the Essex Division of the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce. The festival will feature a full day of local flavor and fun, including more than 40 artists and vendors, 15 nonprofit booths, food trucks, craft beverages, live music, and family-friendly activities. Kids can enjoy face painting by Miss Wendy, a visit with the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team, and a K-9 demonstration.
The highlight of the festival is the ever-popular Clam Chowder Competition, which runs from 12 to 1 p.m. (or while supplies last). For $15 (adults) or $10 (children under 10), attendees can sample and vote on entries from eight local establishments:
A People’s Choice Award will be determined by tasters, while a panel of judges will select the Judges’ Award winner.
Beverages from the Rockport Brewing Company and 90+ Cellars will be available on site alongside booths from local crafters to celebrate the region’s offering.
