Meet MSA’s New Program Director and Sailing Director

This week kicks off the Manchester Sailing Association’s summer season, with programs for young and adult sailors of all skill levels, from novices to racing champs.

MSA reports that it has invested in eight new Prams to replace aging Dyers in its “Learn to Sail” and “Sea Urchin” programs, which are fantastic additions to our fleet. They’ve also made recent capital investments in our 420s and Optis, further improving the quality of the program’s equipment, and two new safety boats.

But the big news is, this year, MSA has hired two new additions to the team.  First, Heather Ryan will serve as MSA’s new Program Director.  Heather is a lifelong sailor, has taught sailing for many years, is a former MSA parent, and a MSA Board Member emeritus.

“We are very thrilled that she has stepped forward and will take on the role this summer,” said MSA’s Suzanne Pinto.  “Her experience and steady hand will help ensure a safe and positive season.”

Then there is MSA’s new Sailing Director and Race Coach, Tommy McCormick who joins this season.  Tommy is currently at Kenyon College, has many years of sailing instruction and coaching under his belt at top programs, and is a world-class sailor.  He has more than 10 years of combined racing experience in the Optimist, C420 (skipper and crew), and ILCA/Laser classes at regional, national, and international championship events.  Additionally, Tommy has represented Team USA at multiple ILCA (International Laser Class Association) championships.

“His expertise and passion for sailing make him a valuable addition to our team,” said Pinto.
