ME Quarterback Will Levendusky passed the way against Boston English opponents on Friday afternoon at home, winning the game 28–0. The Hornets started the season 3–0 and have not given up a point on defense yet. Stellar play on both sides of the ball has contributed to this hot start. Levendusky has thrown four touchdown passes the last two games bringing his season total to five through three games. He was also selected as one of the Boston Herald Division 7/8 players of the week for his performance against Boston English. In the last two games, the Hornets have had three players score their first varsity touchdowns: Lars Arntsen, Frank Wood and freshman Owen Aiello. The Hornets are off this week but will return to action on October 11 to face Roxbury Prep at Hyland Field.
The Manchester Essex cross country teams competed in the Frank Kelley Invitational meet on Saturday. This was their first big meet of the year. The top five boys competed in the championship race against 20 schools’ teams as well as many other top runners who did not have a full team. They finished in 16th place. The highlight of the day was Will Kenney placing second in the championship race. The lead three runners took off at a fast 4:45 pace through the first mile. Will stayed in the second pack 10 seconds behind the leaders. With about three minutes to go, he made his move to beat six individuals and move into second place with a time of 16:27 for the 5-kilometer race. Also running in the championship race were Marco Bussone, 49th; Colin Harrison, 114th; Eli Heanue, 120th; and Logan Cooper, 145th. Max Kirk and Tyler Erdmann raced well in the Division 2 open, finishing at 21:58 and 24:13, respectively.
The girls team raced in the Division 2 open. Olivia Ford led the way with a time of 23:50 for 39th place. She was followed by Jane Whitten, Olivia Turner, Althea Hurd and Emily Fossa.
Last week, the Lady Hornets field hockey team faced off against Georgetown, Triton and Rockport. In a 6–1 win against Georgetown, senior Captain Bridget Twombly had four goals and one assist. Holding up the defense in the back field were senior Eden Mayer and senior Madeline Donnellan. In a 2–2 tie with Triton, senior Captain Christina Bullock had a key goal in a stroke to start a come from behind score for the Hornets. She also netted the second, game-tying goal. Senior Cagney Pallazola made key defensive plays along with junior Jennifer O’Neil. To round out the week, the Hornets defeated Rockport 5–0. Junior Lily Athanas scored her first goal of the season along with a stellar performance on offense and defense. Junior Bonnie Gerhardt had a great tame on the defensive end along with Senior Bridget Miller. The Hornets stand at 7–0–2 and will face off at home against North Reading this week.

The Manchester Essex golf team continued their solid play last week, splitting matches with Masco and Lynnfield. The team stands at 6–2 and leads the Cape Ann League Baker division. Last week, the team traveled to Turner Hill to face a strong Masco team and lost 135–117. Charlie Gendron and Ian Taliaferro led the way for the Hornets. On Thursday, the Hornets rebounded at home versus Lynnfield with a solid 121–113 victory. Sam Rice had the high score for all players in the match. This week, the team travels to Myopia to face Hamilton Wenham on Wednesday and hosts Georgetown on Thursday in key late-season CAL contests.
It was another solid week for the Manchester Essex boys soccer team with a 5–0 win over Triton and a 0–0 draw with Rockport. The boys remain undefeated in league play and sit atop the CAL Baker Division with their sights on their fourth league title in as many seasons. On Tuesday, the Hornets traveled to Triton and came out with great energy early going up 1–0 just minutes into the match. Junior Tommy Bowen scored a pair along with sophomore Naderson Curtis including a classy, one-touch finish off a long-flighted ball from fellow sophomore Kai Carroll. Later in the week, the boys would tie Rockport 0–0 in a clash of styles that came to a stalemate. The physical, high-pressing and frequent-subbing style of the Vikings gave the possession-oriented Hornets all they could handle in the match. The Hornets created some solid chances off their possession, but the Rockport keeper was solid in net. The Vikings were also dangerous on their long throws, but the Hornet defense and net minder Ben Goutal were switched on and impenetrable. The Hornets have a tester of a week coming up with a pair of CAL large opponents in North Reading and Masco.
