Hornets Nest for the Week of October 18th

Girls Soccer:

The girls varsity soccer team clinched the playoffs for the third season in a row with a 4–0 home win versus Hamilton Wenham. Goals came from Maya Baker (two), Maddie Lawler and an own goal from the other team. The team’s last remaining games are away versus Lynnfield and Georgetown, and then finally there’s senior night at home versus Ipswich on October 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Football:

The Manchester Essex football team is now 4-0 after defeating the Roxbury Prep Wolves 20-6. Will Levendusky threw two touchdown passes in the game.  Lars Arntsen rushed for the other. The Hornets will host the undefeated, 5–0 Bedford Buccaneers in a rare Saturday afternoon tilt at Hyland Field.   

Cross Country:

The Manchester Essex cross country team ran against Ipswich last Tuesday. Both boys and girls had good races; almost every runner is showing significant improvement. The biggest improvements in pace per mile were from Olivia Turner, 53 seconds; Tyler Cronin, 51 seconds; Max Kirk, 43 seconds; Adelaide Notte, 43 seconds; Anna Whitten, 42 seconds; Emily Fossa, 42 seconds; and Althea Hurd, 41 seconds.The boys lost 36 to 23. Scoring for the boys were Eli Heanue in 3rd, Marco Bussone in 4th, Colin Harrison in 6th, Logan Cooper in 11th, and Max Kirk in 12th. The boys are now 2–2. The girls lost 36 to 21. Scoring for the girls were Olivia Turner in 2nd, Jane Whitten in 5th, Althea Hurd in 8th, Emily Fossa in 9th, and Mary Annabel Chrzanowski in 12th. This was Mary Annabel's first time scoring for the team. The girls are now 1–3.The last meet of the regular season is Wednesday at Lynnfield. The Hornets then move on to the Cape Ann League meet and the East State Divisional meet.
