Hornets Nest for the Week of January 22nd

 Boys & Girls Ski 

The boys alpine race team began their competitive season on January 14th when they faced off against Austin Prep and Newburyport.  The team was able to win in their match against Austin Prep with a score of 79 to 56.  Newburyport got the better of the team with a final score of 72 to 63.  Eli Hammett and Senior Captain Ryan Clark both skied well scoring top points in the races. Mason O’Grady and Cooper O’Brien skied well and grabbed valuable points for the team.   It was the girls alpine race teams turn to face off against the same two schools on January 15th.  Austin Prep won with a score of 79 to 56 and Newburyport won with a score of 70 to 65.    Junior Captain, Emma Wonson skied well coming in as the first Hornet racer followed by Lydia Schwartz and then Senior Captain Lilly Coote.  "It has been a tough season so far," said head Coach Tim Wonson, "that could go without being said I'm sure.  Every team is dealing with it and we are all settling in to this new format.  I was talking with our former Captain and newest Coach Lizzi White about it the other night, we are both sure as the season progresses, we will all settle in and get back to just skiing, racing and skiing fast." 

Girls Basketball 

The Manchester Essex Hornets split their games with a win at Triton and a loss against Pentucket The team sits at 1-3 with one game on the schedule this week.  On Wednesday the Hornets traveled to Triton to face off against the Cape Ann large opponent.  The Hornets built an early lead and held on throughout to win the game 36-26.  Lily Athanas led the Hornets with 8 points and 5 steals. Emma Fitzgerald and Madeline Lai each had 6 points in the effort with Lai adding 8 rebounds. Kendall Newton added 6 points and 9 rebounds, Amelia Donnellan Valade 3, and Parker Brooks, Calista Lai, Paige Garlitz and Hattie Wilson each added 2 apiece. 

On Friday, the Hornets hosted league powerhouse Pentucket and after falling behind early, struggled to close the gap.  The Hornets lost 30-57.  GG Huet led the Hornets with 11 points. Lily Athanas added 6. Emma Fitzgerald had 4, Madeline Lai, Bradlee Brooks, Kendall Newton and Calista Lai added two each and Parker Books added one.  

Boys & Girls Swim 

In a virtual meet on January 14th the girls team fell to a strong Triton group 41-21 and the boys fell 57-30.  Senior Captain Sean Phelan was 1st in the Fly with Tyler Burke 1st in diving followed by his brother Connor in 2nd. 

Both teams compete this week against North Reading.
