Update on The Ospreys of Essex County

Posted

Last week, as “The Ospreys of Essex County” was going to press, I accompanied several staff members of the Essex County Greenbelt Association (ECGA) on a mission to replace a nesting platform on Misery Island lost to the storms of last winter.  Time was of the essence as osprey arrivals were already being reported throughout the county and nesting would be the birds’ #1 priority.  Upon arrival on the island, we immediately saw a pair of ospreys scouting out a possible nesting site in a large, dead tree, but ECGA soon supplied a better option.  The photo shows Jane Rumrill of the ECGA staff affixing a small plaque to the new platform. As the boating season begins, I hope local residents will see the new nesting platform put to good use.  jimbehnke@thecricket.com
