Seven years ago, Jane G. Shaw and Dawn Burnham started the Cape Ann Shave to Save. St. Jude Children’s Hospital has always been a cause near and dear to both women. Burnham, who had 2 healthy daughters, started doing fundraisers for the hospital 37 years ago. She continues today as she now has 4 healthy grandchildren. Shaw and her husband Ray have been St. Jude partners for many years. In 6 years, they raised almost $30,000. Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer again 5 years ago. Three years ago, she was diagnosed with terminal metastatic breast cancer. These diagnoses never dampened Shaw’s spirit or determination to make the shave a successful fundraiser for the children at St. Jude.
This June 15, Jane lost her battle with breast cancer. In memory of Jane the shave has been renamed the Jane G. Shaw Shave to Save. The Village Restaurant will be hosting the event this year. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 10. Masks must be worn, and social distancing guidelines will be followed. There will be tee shirts, water bottles and holiday decorations for sale. Two raffles, one will be for gift certificates from local businesses. The other raffle will feature a leaf blower donated by Mayer Tree, $50 to Jennifer’s Hair Studio and Spa, $150 gift basket of Pampered Chef products, 2 Beyer’s Caroling dolls and more. The holiday decorations are wreaths, glass & wooden decorations, Santas, bunnies, and pumpkins. The Village will supply light snacks and have a cash bar.
We will be shaving heads from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wendy Nieberle, Shannon Burke, and Gabe Santan will be shaving. Shavees may register at fundraising.stjude.org/JaneGshave, or just show up and make a donation. All state sanitizing precautions will be followed.
Please stop by and help make a difference in Jane’s name. Jane was a positive force on Cape Ann. She was always sending cards, checking on those in need and a very active member of the St. John the Baptist Parish. The Shave is a wonderful way to keep her positive energy going.
