POTTER CYNTHIA CURTIS’s work feels a lot like summer. The rich turquoise blue glazing and coastal shapes seem to tell us it’s that time, right now. Curtis puts a lot of herself into her designs. Like rolling out a slab of stoneware clay to make a tray and then imprinting it with lace from her great grandmother. Or, seen here, two “shell” dishes—one clam shaped and the other a scallop—that are embedded with found sea glass before firing, giving the pottery a melted layer with all the spectacular depth and sparkle and color of the ocean. Scallop dish, $30; Clam Shell dish, $30.

The “Gurgling Cod” pitcher is a classic that gets its name from the “glugging” sound made while pouring water, a happy byproduct of the curvature of the jug’s design. For years, gurgling cod pitchers were only available at Shreve Crump & Low on Boylston Street (now on Newbury Street). Now they are more widely available. This one, at Lulu’s Pantry in Rockport, is based on an early English design and it’s a steal at $56. Gurgle away!
