Lobster Roll Lunch

The Manchester COA is offering a Lobster Roll Lunch on Tuesday, November 24.  Catered by Jeff’s Variety of Gloucester, those who sign up will enjoy a delicious lobster roll, potato chips and cookie.  Lunches may be picked up at the Council on Aging office or they can be delivered it to you.  The luncheon is six dollars per person and open to the first 40 who sign up.  Drop payment off or mail a check to the Council on Aging, 10 Central Street, Manchester, MA 01944.  Call the COA office for more information or to register.

Looking for Pen Pals

In coordination with the COA, the National Honor Society (NHS) at Manchester Essex Regional High School has created a pen pal program to connect high school students with local seniors.  The pen pal program will operate via email and allow seniors and high school students to form valuable connections from a distance during this unprecedented time of isolation.  The NHS is a nationwide organization that selects high school students based on the following qualities: academic achievement, leadership, service, and character.  Interested seniors can sign up to become a part of the pen pal program by contacting the COA office by phone or email.

Senior Tax Work Off Program

The COA is still accepting applications from seniors interested in participating in the Senior Tax Work Off Program.  This program allows a senior to work up to 125 hours for the Town between October 2020 and May 2021.  Participants in the program receive up to a $1,500 credit on their property taxes.  Applicants must be 65 or over, with a primary residence in Manchester and a gross income at or below $63,800 for individuals or $86,200 for couples.  Participants will be placed with Town departments based on their skills and interests.  The program is not designed to fill existing positions, rather to augment existing operations with additional assistance from senior workers.  Work assignments may vary from administrative support to providing assistance on ongoing projects.
